About LGMA
Introduction
What is LGMA?
Founded in 1936, Local Government Managers Australia is the leading professional association representing managers and aspiring managers working in the local government sector across Australia.
LGMA is continually expanding its charter and membership services to ensure that:
local government management continues to develop and improve;
highest professional and ethical standards are maintained; and
its members are at the forefront of change and innovation.
Part of a federation making up the national organisation, LGMA Tasmania is an independent body representing approximately 150 members in Tasmania.

Run in every State with a national final, this sophisticated developmental program will produce outcomes that are relevant, tangible and enduring to you and your Council. More than any seminar or traditional training program, the Challenge provides effective staff development through participative learning.

Emerging Leaders Program
If you are a current leader or aspire to leadership, this challenging program of workshops will enable you to examine topics and areas critical to local government with a small group of peers.
The Program was held for the first time in 2007 and is expected to be offered on a bi-ennial basis.

These Awards are made to managers in Local Government in Tasmania whose contribution is, in the opinion of their employing councils or colleagues, worthy of special acknowledgement.

Advocacy and Policy Development
LGMA Tasmania works closely with both the State Government and the Local Government Association of Tasmania. We have membership on a number of groups assisting with policy development, in particular advocating the position of local government managers and professionals.
