The LGMA Management Challenge is arguably Australia’s most sophisticated professional development program for current and aspiring local government leaders.

Now in its 17th year, the Challenge provides a hands-on approach to professional development that produces relevant, tangible and enduring personal, team and organizational outcomes.
The 2010 Challenge attracted over 128 teams from councils in Australia and New Zealand.  The Year of Women in Local Government provided a timely incentive for the focus of the 2010 Challenge.  Teams were required to compete on a range of related organisational topics including gender diversity, skills shortages, professional capabilities, environment and human resources.

This year’s pre-challenge task was funded by the Australian Government’s Office for Women.  Team were required collect and analyse workforce data within their own councils, identify issues, barriers and challenges to women in management positions and develop a range of strategies to address any identified gender equity issues for submission to their council.

The top three submissions will be invited to present their findings at the 2010 LGMA National Congress & Business Expo in Adelaide in May.

The regional winners will compete in the Australian final in Melbourne on 1-2 July, 2010.
