Who are we?
Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) was established in 1936 and is the leading professional association representing managers and aspiring managers in local government throughout Australia and Asia-Pacific. LGMA is represented by six state divisions and a national office.
What do we do?
Our purpose is to promote excellence through the advancement of local government management, and we do this through a range of professional development programs, conferences, information networks, leading examples of best practice and state and federal advocacy.
Can I join LGMA?
Yes. Various categories of membership cater for the professional employed in local government through to students undertaking local government studies to consultants and service providers with an interest in local government matters.
How do I join LGMA?
Joining LGMA is easy. Simply contact your state division for details of the membership criteria.

What is LoGIS?
LoGIS (Local Government Information Service) is a membership subscription service for councils. A subscription with LoGIS provides council with three discounted services for a low annual fee, which is a substantial saving on buying these services separately.
The annual fee includes:
• One complimentary registration to the LGMA Annual National Congress;
• 15 copies of the LGM magazine issued bi-monthly;
• One member per council annual membership of the City/County Management Association in the U.S.A, the best resourced local government association in the world.
Can I attend the LGMA National Congress?
Yes. Registration for the annual National Congress is available to any interested delegate. Discounts are available to members and delegates from rural councils.

What is the LGMA Management Challenge?
The LGMA Management Challenge is Australia’s most sophisticated executive development program for current and emerging local government leaders. Councils within Australia and New Zealand have adopted the challenge for its real-life problem solving experiences and hands-on approach to leadership development.
The challenge assists councils to:
• Grow inter-departmental relationships
• Break down silos
• Build capacity
• Attract and retain staff
• Improve organisational culture, and
• Promote team-work.
The challenge is held in most capital cities in March each year. The best performed teams go on to complete in the Australasian final. The challenge is designed to provide relevant learning for all participants.

If I join LGMA or attend a LGMA event, what happens to my information?
Please note any information collected by LGMA will be kept in strict confidence and only used internally to disseminate information. Details collected from delegates attending LGMA events is usually made available to corporate partners unless requested otherwise.
How do I receive the magazine ‘Local Government Manager’?
Local Government Manager (LGM) is the official journal of LGMA and is sent complimentary to all LGMA members. It is available to other individuals, authorities or organisations by subscription.
