Purpose of forum:
- To find out how projects were developed, barriers overcome, and local consultations engaged in.
- To learn how to grow your workforce through cross-sectoral collaboration.
- To be part of future regional skills and workforce development.
Morning Sessions: Welcome, DEEWR Keynote and REAP Presentations
9am: Welcome, overview of REAP aims, LGMA’s role, and intentions of forum by Ray Pincombe, President, LGMA - National
9.30am: Keynote opening address by Christine Dacey, Branch Manager, Workforce Development Branch, Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR)
10am–1pm: The REAP Projects: Presentations from the three REAP regions and the REAP National Project Manager, LGMA - National.
Why, what and how the projects developed, overcoming the barriers and taking advantage of opportunities:
- Emerald, Central Queensland: Seasonal Workforce Attraction – matching local skills needs to the skill sets of the experienced travelling population
- Launceston, Northern Tasmania: Investing in the Region – developing common skills for support workers in industries involved with agriculture, land and environmental management
- Singleton, Hunter Valley, New South Wales: Investing in the Future – developing skills training and career pathways for mobile plant operation.
- LGMA National Manager: Making it work and sharing insights
1-2pm: Lunch
Afternoon sessions: Embedding REAP - Implementation and Replication
2pm–4pm
This session explored funding and other options for ongoing implementation in 2009 and beyond with government and regional employer representatives; and investigated the potential replication of cross-sectoral skill strategies in other regions, sectors and industries:
- Emerald, Central Queensland: Seasonal Workforce Attraction
- Launceston, Northern Tasmania: Investing in the Region
- Singleton, Hunter Valley, NSW: Investing in the Future
- Replicating and Implementing REAP across Regional Australia
4pm–5pm: Summary and The Way Forward
Wrap up by region, conclusion and learnings from Regional Project Managers and National Project Manager LGMA National.
The Regional Employers Alliance Project is a Commonwealth-State Skills Shortage Initiative funded through the Strategic National Initiatives component of the 2005-08 Commonwealth-State Agreement for Skilling Australia's Workforce.
