International LGMA
LGMA Pacific Local Government Climate Change Fellowship Program
Calls for Expressions of Interest from Australian Councils
Do you have a passion for climate change? Is your Council considered a leader in climate change? Do you and your council have an interest in international development work in Asia-Pacific?
Commencing in 2012 LGMA will be running a LGMA Pacific Local Government Climate Change Fellowship Program aimed at exchanging knowledge and building capacity on the common and imminent challenge of climate change in the region.
Some of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change are among the population of the Pacific and some of the leaders in local government climate change action and response are in Australia. LGMA National will be hosting climate change practitioners from Pacific local governments in a climate change fellowship program supported by AusAID through the
ALAF Program.
Under this program LGMA National will be offering five Local Government Climate Change fellowships to practitioners from the Pacific identified as leaders in their country, their local authority and their community.
Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA) is calling for expressions of interest from Australian Councils, or a group of Councils, to host the Pacific fellows for a period of 6 weeks and where possible to host two fellows in a “buddy-system”.
This is an exciting opportunity for Australian local government practitioners to share knowledge and expertise with their peers in the Pacific, many of whom are tackling climate change challenges within countries identified as some of the most vulnerable.
It is the vision of this program to establish long term links between Australian and Pacific practitioners and local governments between peers at the frontline of climate change.
