The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) is the Australian Government agency responsible for managing Australia’s overseas aid program. The fundamental purpose of Australian aid is to help people overcome poverty. This also serves Australia’s national interests by promoting stability and prosperity both in our region and beyond.
LGMA has a long-standing relationship with AusAID that extends over a number of decades. Our latest partnership with AusAID is through the Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship Program (ALA Fellowship), which will pave the way for regular fellowship programs with our local government peers in Asia-Pacific.
Funding received through the ALA Program has enabled LGMA to run the Pacific Local Government Climate Change Fellowship program (PLGCCFP). Through the program, five local government officers in the Pacific regions will travel to Australia to be hosted by local councils for the purpose of knowledge exchange, best practice and capacity building.
