Sunday 16 May

Adelaide’s Lord Mayor, Michael Harbison will welcome delegates to the LGMA National Congress and Business Expo at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Monday 17 May
9.00am
Official welcome and opening by His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR,
Governor of South Australia and National Anthem performed by Brighton Secondary School. Welcome to country by Aunty Cherie Watkins, Elder of the Kaurna people.
10.00am
Keynote address by Daniel Alesch, senior recovery advisor and Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, USA on the impact of dramatic climatic events of community and business.
11.30am
Keynote address by Christine Nixon, Chair, Victorian Bushfire Recovery and Reconstruction Authority – one year on.
1.30pm
Presentation by Cr Sharon Bland, Coorong District Council, SA discussing how the council is assisting its Lower Lakes communities recovery from the impact of water shortages in the Murray Darling Basin.
2.30pm
Presentation by Gary Okely, General Manager, Local Government Risk Services, SA on climate change resilience through enterprise risk management.

Keynote presentation by Cheryl Kernot, Director of Social Business at the Centre for Social Impact, UNSW discusses the regeneration of the social landscape – new partnerships in service delivery through social business.

Presentation by Sandra Cannon, Chief Executive Office, Victoria Daly Shire NT, on cultural diversity; growth towns; new local government and community growth.
11.30am
Keynote address by Tim Costello AO, Chief Executive, World Vision Australia discussing global crisis; local action – connecting local government to global solutions.

Keynote presentation by Ruth Medd, Chair, Women on Boards discussing how gender diversity is just good business.
3.30pm
Presentation by LGMA Management Challenge teams from Randwick City Council (NSW), Shire of Mundaring (WA) and the City of Boroondara (VIC) on the barriers and challenges to women in local government, and the strategies and actions designed to overcome gender equity issues.
7.30am
Margaret Reynolds, Chair of the Australian Centre for Excellence in Local Government officials opens the Women in Local Government networking breakfast.

Presentation by Peter Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Adelaide City Council SA, on community leadership, it’s everyone’s responsibility.

Keynote presentation by Christine Healy, former director, ACT Bushfire Recovery Centre discussing long term recovery after the 2003 Canberra bushfires

Keynote address by Sophie Morell, the world’s most glamorous transplant athlete on sheer determination and the power of the human spirit.

LGMA National welcomes all media to the 2010 LGMA National Congress & Business Expo. Please contact Helen Diggerson on 0414 376 924 if you would like to attend the congress to arrange a media pass. Although the congress does not have an on-site media centre, there a number of seating areas at various locations throughout the Business Expo (Exhibition Halls F & G) that visiting media are welcome to use.
