National Skills Shortage Strategy for Local Government - Image

To aid implementation of the National Strategy Skills Shortage Strategy for Local Government, a platform of initiatives has been created around the four strategic objectives of the strategy. The platform demonstrates the activities, partnerships and collaborations currently being undertaken by local governments, state and national local government associations and peak professional bodies.

Strategic Objective 4 – Image Building

To develop and promote a positive public image of local government as flexible, cutting edge and responsive to its constituents – communities, local businesses and its workforce.

The challenge includes countering the lack of public recognition and understand of local government’s role in protecting, developing and ensuring sustainability of built and natural environments and communities.

Strategies for the Future

  • 1. Establish a national local government brand to promote local government across Australia as:
  • A responsive, community-engaged and multifaceted sector
  • An Employer of Choice
  • Offering a diverse and rewarding career to school leavers, tertiary students and graduates

2. Develop a national marketing campaign using various media to promote the national local government brand, local government’s role and discipline values with state contact and organisational points.
