The LGMA National Congress & Business Expo is Australia's leading forum for local government professionals. The congress provides councils in Australia and around the world the opportunity to showcase themselves as leading authorities on issues relevant to the local government sector. The congress is based around a series of plenary and concurrent sessions by keynote presenters, and interactive breakout workshops. It offers flexible registration and payment options, which provide delegates with a unique opportunity to tailor their congress experience to their own needs.

Re-Generation: New Beginnings is the theme for the 2010 national congress and business expo, and will capture the challenges and opportunities facing local government in the current environment of:
- Major climatic events as a result of climate change
- Challenge to local economices due to the Global Financial Crisis
- Local government's capacity to deal with existing and future challenges.
The 2010 congress will include three themes:
Recovery: From climatic events such as fire, storms or floods, or from the global financial crisis impacting on local industry.
Resilience: Strategies and/or policy developments that demonstrates thinking around climate change, cultural diversity, urban growth, changes in rural industries.
Resources: Issues and solutions around aging (both for the community and the workforce), women in the workplace, skills shortages, succession planning, attracting and retaining the next generation of local government professionals, workforce health, partnerships and exploring different ways of working.

Following on from congress and in keeping with the theme, this insighful one-day study tour will provide a unique opportunity to explore how three northern adelaide councils have risen to the challenge, joined forces and used innovation to future proof the northern region of Adelaide from the critical issues we face with water resource management.
Entertainment and relaxation | Join the congress social scene
The Congress Gala Dinner is renowned as an extraordinary entertaining experience. On Monday evening, witness a most illuminating event and then dance the night away to local band, "The Flaming Sambucas." On Tuesday evening experience a charity night in support of "Make Poverty History" and the work undertaken by World Vision. Enjoy an evening of relaxation with entertainment from world renowned unusualist Raymond Crowe.

Two interesting diversions are available to delegates' partners. These include a guided tour through the beautiful and historic Adelaide city visiting world famous Penfold's winery, lunch at a popular Adelaide hotel and sights of the city.
